Ayurveda Sri Lanka

Ayurveda Sri Lanka.

Before the introduction of Ayurvedic medicine to Sri Lanka, the traditional medicine system was "Indigenous Medicine" or Sinhala Medicine. As a result of the transmission of Buddhism to Sri Lanka, Ayurveda was also gifted. Ayurveda came to Sri Lanka from India where it developed over three thousand years.

The founder of Ayurveda is considered to be the sage Dhanvantari who was born in India. He is also known as the father of Ayurvedic surgical tradition. Ayurveda, or Ayurvedic medicine, is an ancient system of medicine native to the Indian subcontinent.

The indigenous system of medicine, the national system of medicine and the Sinhala system of medicine are known by different names in Sri Lanka and have been given the name "Ayurveda" under the interpretation of paragraph 89 of the Ayurveda Act No. 31 of 1961. Introduced as a collective name. For all three systems of medicine, Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani.

Ayurveda is the science of sustainability. Most of the medicines used in Ayurveda are derived from plant parts. Medicines are produced from the medicinally valuable parts of a plant (roots, leaves, bark, flowers, fruits). Medicinal teas, juices, oils, pills, kalka, asava, kashaya, arishta etc. are used in Ayurveda. In addition to herbal medicines, honey, medicines from animal sources and various rocks have also been used.
